Thoughtful exterior lighting design integrates into the environment, creating experiential spaces that don’t compromise the night sky. Knowing how to strategically design and control lighting systems in symbiosis with the nightscape, while also creating a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment, requires a fundamental understanding of how light can transform the exterior realm. This session will discuss how to holistically approach lighting design, cover new technologies, help you select the right color of light, and offer insight into practical considerations such as fixture selection, light levels, energy codes, and exterior lighting ordinances. It will also cover design strategies for exterior building, hardscape, and landscape lighting applications.
