AE Design Brings Home Six Awards

Notable Projects Celebrated by LightSPEC Design Excellence Awards and IES Brilliance Awards

AE Design, the Denver-based award-winning integrated lighting, technology, and electrical solutions firm has been awarded for several notable projects by two nationally recognized industry organizations, The Lighting Controls Association, LEDs Magazine, and Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) in the 2022 LightSPEC Design Excellence Awards and the IES Brilliance Awards, respectively.

The LightSPEC Design Excellence Awards, sponsored by The Lighting Controls Association, showcased projects that exemplify lighting design excellence and leverage innovation in controls by: significantly increasing energy efficiency; simplifying end-user system management; and providing actionable data for improving operations and occupant health and comfort.

AE Design brought home the award for its lighting controls strategies applied to its work for the Crocs Headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado, a project designed and led by Venture Architecture. The Crocs corporate facility envisioned equipped and flexible spaces, ingress for natural light, and living walls to help bring the outdoors inside — all while enabling the company to work toward net-zero objectives.

The AE Design team incorporated Lutron Vive wireless controls with BACnet capabilities allowing the facility to monitor its energy usage and control the wide variety of luminaires and linear light sources in a more granular fashion. The controls also support daylight harvesting functions, enabled via skylights and roll-up doors, as well as localized color tuning and dimming.

Judges considered the complexity of design, project objectives, and innovation in combining lighting and controls solutions for each submission.

Further establishing AE Design as a leader in the industry, the firm was also awarded five Brilliance Awards at the award ceremony that took place on September 23, 2022. The award recipients showcased exceptional projects in the field of architectural lighting and design at the non-profit, Denver-based architectural lighting awards ceremony for the design community in the Rocky Mountain region.

AE Design was recognized for their integrated lighting design and engineering services and received the following awards:

  • Crocs Global Headquarters - Controls Award of Honor (Client: Venture Architecture)

  • Sawmill Market - Exterior Award of Merit (Client: Heritage Hotels & Resorts, Inc.)

  • OpenTable Support Center - Medium Scale Commercial Award of Merit (Client: Venture Architecture)

  • Smiley Branch Library - Custom Luminaire Award of Honor (Client: Studiotrope Design Collective)
